Mr. Sonny Seals and Mr. George Hart, in their travels along the back roads of Georgia, began to think about the beauty and utility of the many historic chapels that dot the state. Many of these structures were crumbling into the ground and being lost to history. Sonny and George are the brains behind the movement to restore Historic Rural Churches of Georgia. They will be coming to south Georgia -- to Reidsville -- to do a presentation on their work. They are the authors of the gorgeous book published by UGA Press in October 2016 called HISTORIC RURAL CHURCHES OF GEORGIA. In addition, they engineered the website of the same name, which is uniquely designed by county and then by chapel, so information on a particular area or church can easily be accessed. Sonny and George produce the video series "Saving Grace" now airing on Georgia Public Broadcasting. Both are businessmen from Atlanta with a keen interest in preserving the historic treasures of the state of Georgia. This is a unique and lucky opportunity for those of us in the Wiregrass Region to meet these two visionaries and see a beautiful and inspiring presentation of their work.
The event is sponsored by the Friends of the Library, Tattnall County Library, Tattnall County Archives, and the Cedar Grove Church Rescue Project.
It is 100% free and the public is most welcome. Reserve your seat now.
